Dr Kelly Smith, ISBE’s Vice-President for Policy & Practice, has led the Institute’s official response to the UK Department for Business, Innovation & Skills’ consultation on their proposed reform plans for Higher Education.
Building on research presented at the annual ISBE conferences by its membership, Dr Smith has provided comprehensive feedback that will now be considered by BIS before the next stage of its Higher education: teaching excellence, social mobility and student choice consultation.
ISBE’s response to the consultation builds on the Institute’s previous efforts to ensure that the views of its membership are at the heart of policy discussions about entrepreneurship and HE.
ISBE provided comment on the main areas of the consultation plans – teaching quality; learning environment; student outcomes and learning gain – emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation throughout the HE curriculum, and calling for the Government to ensure that existing good work is not lost in transition.
The ISBE response also calls for governmental support to encourage the effective dissemination of the rigorous academic research into enterprise and entrepreneurship education that is already being presented at events like the ISBE annual conference. It points to a disconnect between the presented research and its publication in higher-ranking journal publications, and calls for funding support to bridge this gap.
