ISBE member opens regional conference to challenge view of co-ops

ISBE member delivers opening keynote at recent conference, challenging view of co-op businesses and their role and contribution to the wider economy.

ISBE member Adrian Ashton was invited to deliver the opening keynote address to a recent conference for co-operative businesses, and took the opportunity to highlight the wide ranging and significant contributions they make to the economy. He also highlighted that although their business model is widely held to be ethical and socially responsible, this does not automatically mean that the goods and services they trade in may be seen the same way; sharing case studies of co-op businesses farming tobacco, and active in the sex industries, amongst others.

Conference was organised by Co-ops East, and all speakers slides and notes from the conference are available on their website here.
