Workshop: The Role and Value of the Educator in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education
Leigh Sear, ISBE Trustee & SFEDI; Andy Penaluna, University of Wales Trinity Saint David
Venue: Concorde

Background

First, whilst there has been a clear focus on understanding what constitutes an effective enterprise and entrepreneurship education experience for the learner within the literature, there has been less emphasis on unpacking what the educator needs to deliver this experience, particularly in terms of co-creating curriculum with other stakeholders. Second, there is a set of questions around how to recognise the value and impact of enterprise and entrepreneurship education in FE and HE and the ways in which to support the professional development of enterprise and entrepreneurship educators so that they have the knowledge and skills required to deliver an experience that adds value. The workshop will explore both the role for the educator and the associated development needs and requirements.
There will be three key parts to the workshop:
– The workshop will start with two/three five minute provocations from individuals representing different communities of practice (e.g. the educator, the learner, the small business)
– The provocations will be used to generate a set of questions for workshop participants to discuss in small, interactive group sessions
– The facilitators will then tease out the key issues and, with the group, develop an action plan for the professional development of enterprise and entrepreneurship educators

There will be three key outcomes:
– An opportunity for the workshop participants to reflect on their practice and development with others
– The development of action plan which can be used to shape policy (e.g. the current BEIS review of enterprise and entrepreneurship education) and practice (e.g. structures for professional development of enterprise and entrepreneurship educators)
– Insights which can be used by bodies such as SFEDI/IOEE, EEUK and HEA to develop provision for enterprise and entrepreneurship educators
